Florentino P. Montez, 83, passed away October 5, 2011 at his home in Pinehurst, Idaho. Florentino was born June 20, 1928 in Alamo, Texas. He was the son of Jesus and Concepcion (Prado) Montes.
Florentino moved to Billings, Montana where he met Virginia Roybal, they were later married July 19, 1950 in Billings, Montana. Together they moved to Idaho’s Silver Valley where they raised their family.
Florentino earned his GED and later received a degree in Carpentry from North Idaho College.
He had worked in the cell room zinc plant for the Bunker Hill Mining Company for 27 years until his retirement. He also built several houses in the Silver Valley.
Florentino was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and was a 20 year Bunker Hill Club member. Florentino was also a former member of the Pinehurst-Kingston Lions Club.
He loved to play the guitar, work in his vegetable garden, go fishing, and was always tinkering around the house, building something.
Florentino is survived by his wife Virginia of the family home in Pinehurst, Idaho; 5 children Jesse and his wife Karen Montez of Renton, Washington, Gloria and her husband Daniel Cocco of Lorain, Ohio, Kathy and her husband Steve Gilseth of Kingston, Idaho, Linda and her husband Ernest Clanton of Pinehurst, Idaho, and Connie and her husband Bruce Morris of Chandler, Arizona; one brother Lupe and his wife Gavina Montes of Pinehurst, Idaho; one sister Josefa Baez of Mexico; 13 grandchildren Joe, Christina, Jessaka, Jaylene, Lisa, Samantha, Jared, John, David, Alexandrea, Francesca, Danelle, and Zachary; 5 Great-Grandchildren Travis, Taylor, Dylan, Jackson, and Jazmyn; nieces and nephews Hope, Rick, Nettie, and Josie as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Rosary Service will be held on Oct 7, 2011 at 5:P.M.pm at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kellogg, Idaho. A Funeral Mass will be held Oct. 8, 2011 at 2:00P.M.pm at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kellogg, Idaho with Father Tom Loucks officiating. Burial will be in the Hunt Cemetery, Kingston, Idaho.
