Otto Bernerd Hill, 97, of Page, Idaho, passed away with his family by his side, on September 5, 2011 at the Shoshone Medical Center of Kellogg, Idaho. He was born March 22, 1914 at Cataldo, Idaho; Otto was the son of Charlie and Hilja (Mack) Hill.
Otto has lived in the Silver Valley for most of his life. He married Maxine Elliott on February 1, 1936 at Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; Maxine passed away on November 21, 1990.
Otto had first served as a logger and had logged the first roads with horses over the Fourth Of July Pass. He had also served as a steam fitter in Seattle during WW II, in the war effort. Lastly, Otto worked as a cable man for ASARCO.
Otto was a member of the Steam Fitters Local Union and a member of the Coeur d’ Alene District Miners and Smeltermen’s Union Local #18. He had also served as General Manager for Silver Valley Little League baseball in 1963 - 1964.
Otto loved and enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, and hiking- he had enjoyed hiking till the age of 95.
Otto is survived by one daughter Vicki Hill of La Grande, Oregon; one son Spike and his wife Toni Hill of Page, Idaho; four grandchildren Vanessa and her husband George Hagedorn of La Grande, Oregon, Sharon Schultz of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, Sara and her husband Dwayne Sharp of Spring Creek, Nevada and Heidi Peterson and her companion Daniel Brenner of Spring Creek, Nevada; he is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Otto was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maxine, two brothers and one sister.
Private Family Graveside services will be held at the Shoshone Memorial Gardens of Pinehurst, Idaho.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Shoshone Humane Society, P.O. Box 1005, Kellogg, Idaho 83837.
