January 1, 2012

Raymond Joseph McDonald, 73, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away January 1, 2012 at the Mountain Valley Care & Rehabilitation of Kellogg, Idaho. He was born May 17, 1938 at Jay, New York; he was the son of Ralph and Alyce (Ryan) McDonald.

Raymond first attended Ausable High School of Ausable Forks, New York for three years and he then attended and graduated from the Mount Assumption Institute of Plattsburgh, New York in 1956. Ray then attended the Paul Smith College of Forest Service of Paul Smith, New York in 1959. After college, Ray entered the U.S. Army in 1960.

Ray served as a road surveyor for the U.S. Forest Service; he then became a logger and when moving to the Silver Valley, he served as a miner for the Galena Mine and the Lucky Friday Mine, where he retired.

Ray loved and enjoyed skiing at Whitefish, New York, hunting, western music, camping, huckleberry picking, and hiking the Adirondack Mountains in north eastern New York.

Ray will be remembered as a warmhearted, peaceful, soft spoken man, that at times could be pretty fiesty but never hurtful. The family will quite literally have some big boots to fill.

Ray is survived by one daughter Anne Boyd of Spokane Valley, Washington; three grandchildren Brittney Boyd, Rachael Boyd and Kyle Boyd all of the Mica, Washington area; one great-grandchild Aiden Keatts of the Mica, Washington area; one sister Anne and her husband Bill Rooney of the Jay, New York area; one aunt Gertude Scheuer of Loudenville, New York; an ex-wife Mary Ann McDonald of Spokane, Washington; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-in-law Stan Walsh, and two nieces Susan and Mary Walsh.

Cremation was held and Memorial Services will be held on January 21st, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mountain Valley Care & Rehabilitation of Kellogg, Idaho.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Lucky Friday Mine Rescue Unit, c/o Hecla Limited, P.O. Box 31 Mullan, Idaho 83846.
