Alex Joseph D’Andrea, Jr., 76, of Cataldo, ID, beloved husband of Edee (Johnson) D’Andrea, passed away on August 10, 2025 at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, ID from an aggressive form of leukemia. Alex was born on July 6, 1949 in Spokane, WA, son of the late Alex D’Andera, Sr., and Marion Whyte.
Alex attended local schools in the Silver Valley and was a Kellogg High School graduate, Class of 1967. Alex went on to the University of Idaho, became an ATO where he was affectionately known as “The Nude Leaper”.He earned his Bachelor’s degree in education. He taught physical education, weight training, and coached football and basketball at Kellogg Junior High and Kellogg High School for over 35 years until his retirement. He was extremely proud of “his kids”, respected by them, and loved to give them “ a good whack in the head” when they deserved it!
He married Edee Johnson on June 18, 1986 at their house which was being built up the North Fork of the CDA river. The couple enjoyed horseback riding and covered many trails in the area. They moved to Kingston for a short period while acquiring their dream property out at Lane, the Omega. Later they switched to going on SxS rides through the mountains. Alex was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors as much as possible. He was able to take a trophy bull elk that scored 10th in Idaho one year! Alex was a member of the Comanchero Car Club where he and Edee helped with their many different car shows and events.
In addition to his parents, Alex is preceded in death by his sister, Connie Silvernail.
Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Edee D’Andrea of Cataldo, ID; his mother in-law, Madeline Johnson of Pinehurst, ID; brother in-law, Jerry (Barb) Johnson of Bozeman, MT; nephew, Eric (Krista) Johnson of White Salmon,WA, and two nieces, Tristen (Jeremiah) Coyne and family of Wilbur, WA, and Kim (Kirby) King and family of Waco, TX. Alex is also survived by numerous extended family members and very dear and special friends.
His family request that in lieu of flowers, donations in Alex’s memory may be made to St.Jude’s Children Research Hospital. Per his request, there will be no service.
