Bernadine "Bernie" Bonnie Carlson

Jun 12, 1941 — May 26, 2026

Bernadine "Bernie" Bonnie Carlson passed away in Cd’A on May 26, 2026 after succumbing to long and challenging health conditions. She was brave and courageous through the last chapter of her life, leaving behind a legacy woven with profound dedication to her family. Bernie was born June 12, 1941 in Billings, Montana to James and Charlotte Bury. The family migrated to Wallace in 1949 where she attended Wallace Lords Academy.

She married Raymond Dean Weikel in October 1958 and settled in Osburn. They were raising two children when Raymond was tragically killed in a mining accident one month prior to the birth of their last daughter. She later met and married Cordes “Corky” Carlson and continued raising the three children until his death.

Bernie was a magnificent cook. She loved exploring recipes, frequently discussing dishes with family and restaurant employees. She almost always enhanced and modified the ingredients to make unique meals for family and friends, and loved sharing homemade goodies from the heart with everyone who had lent her a hand. Bernie enjoyed life and the opportunities it brought; boating, camping, a member of the Mountaineer Motorcycle club and loved long trips on their motorcycle. She rarely passed up an adventure.

Bernie is preceded in death by her parents Jim and Charlotte, her sisters Marcia Bury, MargieAnn Tesky, and Jill Jackson.

She is survived by her sister Jackie Kannegaard, Cd’A; sister Toni (Leonard) Davis, Montana; brother Patrick (Marilyn) Bury, Arizona; sister MaryAlice Gunwall, California. Her children Kelle Poole (Shade), Post Falls; Cory (Shellie) Weikel, Osburn; Rona Reader (Kip), Post Falls. Five grandchildren: Brittany Covert, Michael Weikel, Ryan Reader, Andrea Fisher, and Robyn Novotny. Ten great-grandchildren (11th due on Bernie’s 85th birthday). She also leaves behind her cherished nephew Jason Tesky and niece Angela Hall along with numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

“You will be missed and we know that your love will never be forgotten but rather woven into the fabric of our hearts forever.”

Services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Wallace at noon. Donations in honor of Bernie can be made to Silver Valley Meals on Wheels.
