Bette Jo "BJ" Case

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bette Jo “BJ” Case, who peacefully entered the arms of the Lord on August 5, 2026, at Hospice of North Idaho, surrounded by the love of her family.

BJ was born on August 6, 1957, in Butte, Montana. When she was three years old, her family made North Idaho their home, and it was there that she built a life rooted in love, hard work, and family. More than anything, BJ loved being a sister, wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma. Her family was the center of her world, and there was nothing that made her happier than having everyone together. She had a way of making each person feel loved, welcomed, and important. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every laugh, every hug, and every memory they made together. BJ found happiness in the simple things. She loved wandering through the woods with a bucket in hand, searching for huckleberries, taking in the beauty of the North Idaho mountains she called home. She loved spending quiet days with her husband, Robert, whether they were out enjoying nature or simply enjoying each other’s company. Those moments meant everything to her.

Earlier in life, BJ worked as a bartender, where her warm smile and kind heart made lifelong friends. Alongside her brother Stan she worked at the Pinehurst Golf Course. She later worked at Spunstrand, where she continued to build friendships with those fortunate enough to know her.

BJ leaves behind the love of her life, Robert Case; her daughters, Jessica Rasmussen and Jessica Marek; her beloved grandchildren, Tanner Rasmussen (Seantel), Meagan Stepro (Bryce), Halle Harshman (Tyler), Kynlie Frey (Mikel), Shyann Baldwin (Austin), and Jurnee Baldwin (Jr.); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Forest, Reagan, Fisher, Locklynn, Lincoln, Clara, Iris, and Hudson, with two more precious great-grandchildren on the way. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Shirley McClain (Ted); her brother-in-law, Dean Case; her sister-in-law, Peggy Steger; her mother-in-law, Kathy Case; many cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have been loved by her. Her faithful companions, Pickles and Penelope, were never far from her side and brought her endless comfort and joy.

BJ was welcomed into Heaven by her parents Shirley and Stanley Edwards; her father-in-law, Robert Case Sr.; her brother, Stan Edwards; her beloved son, Kelly Frey; and her daughter, Lil’ Jess Case.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Suzanne Decker, who was not only BJ’s physician but also a cherished friend. Your compassionate care, unwavering support, and genuine friendship brought comfort to BJ and to all of us. We are forever grateful for the kindness, dignity, and love you showed throughout her journey. We would also like to thank the incredible staff at Hospice of North Idaho in the Schneidmiller house for the compassionate care they provided during BJ’s final days.

The measure of a life is not found in the years we live but in the love we leave behind. BJ’s life was rich with love. She gave freely, cared deeply, and never let those she loved question how much they meant to her. Her gentle heart, her quiet strength, and her unwavering devotion to her family will live on in the stories shared around kitchen tables, in walks through the huckleberry patches, and in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that love never truly leaves us. It lives on in every lesson she taught, every memory she created, and every life she touched.
