Bill J. Cropper

Bill J. Cropper, Sr., 86, of Silverton, ID, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a trusted friend to many, passed away peacefully at his Silverton home on July 31, 2026. Bill was born on February 28, 1940, in Hailey, ID, a son of the late Pete and Bertha (Lee) Cropper.

Bill’s family relocated to Mullan, ID when he was 6 years old. He graduated from Mullan High School, Class of 1959. He married Judy Jones on January 9, 1960, in Mullan, ID. The couple made their home in Mullan for many years and started their family, then moved to Silverton in 1968. Always working to provide for his family, Bill worked at Sunshine Mine and then became a licensed electrician. Over the decades, Bill helped so many people in the Silver Valley through his electrical business with his honest and dedicated work.

In his earlier years when his sons, Billy and Pete were younger, Bill was an athletic coach for the baseball, basketball and football teams in Wallace. He enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, and was an avid Lakers basketball fan, as well as a Pittsburg Steelers football fan. But above all, he was a loving family man, spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren – all the highlights of his life.

Bill was a member of the Wallace Elks for over 59 years as well as the IBEW for over 34 years.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his son, Billy Joe Cropper Jr., and four siblings, Mary Elizabeth Cropper, Pete Cropper, Bob Cropper, and Sid Cropper.

Bill leaves behind his loving wife of over 66 years, Judy Cropper of Silverton, ID; son, Pete (Carol) Cropper of Spokane, WA; daughter-in-law, Gail Thor Cropper; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Cropper, Rebecca (Roy Horseman) Cropper, Samuel Cropper, and Steven (Brianna) Cropper, all of Spokane, WA; three great-grandchildren, Arianna, Athena, and Royal Jr; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous friends that became like family to him over the years. Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and a strong work ethic that will be greatly missed.

Bill’s family suggests that memorial donations be sent to either Hospice of North Idaho (hospiceofnorthidaho.org) or to the Beacon Cancer and Wellness Clinic, Coeur D’Alene, ID. And special thanks to Loving Care and more for their support of Bill. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to both organizations for their excellent care of Bill in his final days.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2026, 1:00 PM at the Wallace Elks Lodge.
