Dora Garner

June 14, 1931 — July 8, 2017

Dora Jean Garner, 86, of Pinehurst, passed away July 8, 2017 at The Schneidmiller House of Coeur d’Alene. She was born on June 14, 1931 in Springfield, Missouri; Dora was the daughter of Archie and Dorothy (Smith) Glisson.

Dora moved to the Silver Valley with her family in 1946. She was united in marriage to Paul G. Garner on April 30, 1948 in Superior, Montana.

They raised their family between the Silver Valley and Butte, Montana where the mining jobs that Paul pursued provided the means to do so.

When Bunker Hill closed down Dora and Paul became the owner/operators of the Pinehurst Laundromat for about seven years where she got to know many friends and families from the Valley.

She was a member of the Pinehurst Lions Club and a Bowling league in Kellogg. Dora enjoyed bowling, dancing, fishing, bingo, knitting, crocheting, playing cards and going to the casino. She also enjoyed taking and collecting pictures.

Upon her retirement she pursued her bowling, casinos and senior dances where in 2003 she met her dancing partner, Van Vandiver, and for the last fourteen years their devotion to each other was genuine. She also volunteered as a polling station attendant during elections at Pinehurst.

Dora is survived by her sons, Richard (Barbara) Garner of Valley, Washington, Gary (Ann) Garner of Pinehurst, and Bruce (Roberta) Garner of Oakridge, Oregon; her brother Archie (Fran) Glisson of Smelterville, her grandchildren Jerry (Jeanette) Thompson of Newman Lake, Washington, Carrie (Keith) Hamilton of Golden, Colorado, Shane Garner of Valley, Washington, Shelly (Jamie) Bewick of Pinehurst, Pete (Andrea) Garner of Pinehurst, Beau (Becky) Garner of Eugene, Oregon and Caspian (Seth) Orr of Missoula, Montana. She is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren. Dora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Roy Glisson, and one great-grandchild.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017, 10:00 A.M. at the Shoshone Funeral Service Chapel at Kellogg, Idaho with Reverend Ken Bartle officiating.

The family suggests that donations can be made in Dora’s honor to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 Government Way, Hayden, Idaho 83835 or the Silver Valley Cancer Resource Center, 208 Oregon St., Kellogg, Idaho 83837.

HOW WILL I BE REMEMBERED? What will they say about me, those whom I hold so dear? What will they best remember when I’m no longer here? Will they recall mistakes I’ve made, battles I never won? Moments of pain I’ve caused them, things I’ve left undone? Will they censor my human failings, and wish I’d been noble and strong? Will they scoff at the hopes I nurtured, the dreams that somehow went wrong? Or will they be moved by compassion directed from Heaven above, to temper their judgment with kindness and soften their memories with love?
