Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Jean Magoon, 76, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, in Coeur d'Alene. She was born on May 11, 1950, in Wallace, to Harold and Frances Chilson.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose love for her family was the center of her life. She shared 31 years of marriage with her beloved husband, John Magoon.

She is survived by her children: Duane (Ivona) Magoon of Bunkerville, Rod Magoon of Winnemucca, Deanna (Don) Hamilton of Elko, Barbara Hirsch of Mullan, Harold (Daniele) Magoon of Winnemucca, Lynnette (Jeff) Housley of Carlin, Kenny Magoon of Mullan, and Cathy (Daniel Baker) Tackett of Williston.

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Dahlen, Callie, McKay, Victoria, Kami, Robert, Chancey, Jon, Ana, Derrick, Anthony, Lance, Britany, Aimee, Jordyn, Tiffiany, Ashley, Nic, Ryan, Tyler, Steven, Krista, Liz, Mike, Brandon, Lexie, and Olivia, along with many cherished great-grandchildren, extended family members, dear friends, and special friends Sue Stull and Vic Overman.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John Magoon; her son, Robert; her son-in-law, Kyle Hirsch; her parents, Harold and Frances Chilson; and her siblings, Carol Pehan, Ralph Chilson, Helen Lapp, Jeanne Overman, Harold Chilson, David Chilson, Jack Chilson, and Tom Chilson.

Betty will be remembered for her strength, kindness, and unwavering love for her family. She loved taking walks through Wallace, quilting, and “cheating” at Yahtzee and Cribbage — memories that will continue to bring smiles to those who knew and loved her.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Shoshone Funeral Services, 106 S. Main St., Kellogg, ID.

Graveside services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to Hospice of North Idaho.
