Francis Elliston

April 27, 1915 — September 9, 2014


Beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Francis “Scoop” Elliston, 99, of Wallace, Idaho passed away September 9, 2014 at his home. He was born April 27, 1915 in Hereford, Texas. Scoop was the son of James and Fannie (Kellow) Elliston.

His family later moved to Canyon, Texas where he went to school and graduated from high school in 1934. He attended West Texas State Teacher’s College in Canyon, Texas for one year. Scoop served in the three C’s in Fox Park, Wyoming.

Scoop served in the 142nd Infantry Texas National for four years. He enlisted in the 1st Calvary Division in El Paso, Texas in 1940, where he met his wife Sue, who was teaching school in Sierra Blanche, Texas. They were united in marriage April 5, 1941 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Scoop later transferred into the Bomb Squadron and spent two and a half years in the Southwest Pacific, coming home in July 1945. He was discharged from the Air Force in San Antonio, Texas in June 1945. Scoop, Sue and their daughter Frances Sue moved to Wallace, Idaho in October 1945, where he spent the next thirty three years operating service stations for the Union Oil Company. His wife Sue taught school in the Wallace School District for twenty five years.

Scoop was a member of the Wallace Elks, the Shrine Club (where he spend time as a go go patrol), Masonic Temple and the VFW.

Scoop is survived by his daughter Suzy Mullen of Billings, Montana; his sons James “Bo” (Joyce) Elliston of Anchorage, Alaska and Myles (Pam) Elliston of Silverton, Idaho. He also leaves several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nephews. Scoop is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his brothers and sisters.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday September 18 ,2014 at 11:00A.M. at Church of Christ, 502 S. Division St. Pinehurst, Idaho with David Dill officiating. Inurnment will take place at 9 Mile Cemetery in Wallace, Idaho at a later date.

The family suggests that memorials be made out to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 911 W. 5th Ave., Spokane, Washington, 99204 or Good Samaritan Society Silver Wood Village, P.O. 358, Silverton, Idaho, 83867.
