Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Homer Henry Hoffman, 80, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away May 24, 2014 at the Shoshone Medical Center of Kellogg. He was born January 2, 1934 in Kellogg; Homer was the son of Homer H. and Ann (Warren) Hoffman.
Homer attended the Kellogg High School and was a life-long resident of the Silver Valley. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Homer married Audrey Mendy on February 7, 1967 in Kellogg; Audrey passed away in October of 2005.
Homer is best remembered for serving as a police officer for the Kellogg Police Department and a deputy for the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office for a total of twenty-three years. He also had worked for the Bunker Hill Mining Company for ten years and was co-owner of Dan’s Deluxe Bar of Kellogg.
Homer was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the Wardner Industrial Union, a member of the St. Joe Search and Rescue, a member of the Kellogg Senior Citizens, a member of the Kellogg Elks #1841, a member of the Smelterville Lions and a member of the Mountain View Congregational Church of Kellogg.
Homer loved and enjoyed his family, fishing, pinochle, cribbage, hunting, dancing and reading westerns (Louis L’amour and Zane Grey).
Homer is survived by seven children Penny (Jim) Derbyshire of Moon Gulch-Kellogg, Dale (Donella) Eaton of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, Randy (Lisa) Eaton of Spokane Valley, Washington, Lyn (Brian) Finlay of Coeur d’ Alene, Bernard “Butch” Freer of Kellogg, Norma (Keith) Mabbutt of Coeur d’ Alene and Dokota R. Swann of Coeur d’ Alene; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; two sisters Lorraine Case of Port Orchard, Washington and Audrey (Richard) Winter of Rathdrum, Idaho. Homer was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Audrey and one son Norman Eaton.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Mountain View Congregational Church of Kellogg with Rev. David Langer officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery of Kellogg. A reception/luncheon for family and friends will be held at the Church Fellowship Hall following services.
