Louis Cordell Jennings

July 11, 1941 — June 6, 2025

Kellogg, Idaho

Louis “Louie” Cordell Jennings, 83, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg.

Born on July 11, 1941, in Kellogg to Charlie and Theresa Jennings, Louie was one of five children. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Ernie Jennings, and is survived by his siblings Duane Jennings, Roger Jennings, and Lillian Lannen.

A proud lifelong resident of Kellogg, Louie grew up enjoying the natural beauty of North Idaho. In his early years, he spent his time camping and fishing the North Fork River, passions that stayed with him throughout his life. Louie’s love for sports was unmatched—whether it was local, college, or professional, he followed them all. He especially cheered on the New York Yankees, Packers, the Boston Celtics, and the L.A. Rams.

Louie graduated from Kellogg High School, where he was well-known for his athleticism. He played on the 1959 Kellogg basketball team that won the Idaho State Championship and later earned a football scholarship to Boise State, proudly suiting up for the Broncos in 1960.

Following his time at Boise State, Louie served in the Army Reserves for 6 years and planted roots in his hometown Kellogg Idaho. He married Gloria Hightower and together they made their home on Mission Street, where they raised their three children: Davin, Heidi, and Derek Jennings.

Louie worked as a carman for the Union Pacific Railroad for 20 years and then spent another two decades at Malloy Lumber Company up the North Fork River. After retiring, he treasured time with his family and never missed a game—whether it was on the field or on the screen.

Louie will be remembered for his warm smile, big heart, and unwavering love for his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Gloria; their children Davin (Stephanie), Heidi, and Derek Jennings; grandchildren Brieanne (Cody) Hayman, Courtney Jennings and Hayley (Kolten) Kuntz; great-grandchildren Brinley, Peyton, and Klay; and his siblings Duane Jennings, Roger Jennings, and Lillian Lannen.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Rita’s in Kellogg, Idaho on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM.

The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Kellogg Athletics or Shoshone Pet Rescue — or that you simply take a moment to enjoy the outdoors, watch a ball game, or hug your loved ones, just as Louie would have wished. And if you can, describe the day as “bodacious” or the meal as “succulent” — he’d have loved that.

Memories of Louis and messages of condolence may be sent to his family online at www.shoshonefuneralservice.com. Shoshone Funeral Services, Kellogg, is assisting the Jennings family with arrangements.
