Marjorie Birchmier

November 6, 1921 — June 16, 2014

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and sister, Marjorie Marie Birchmier, 92, of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho (formerly of the Silver Valley) passed away June 16, 2014 at the Hospice House of Coeur d’ Alene. She was born November 6, 1921 in Craig, Colorado; Marjorie was the daughter of Oscar and Elizabeth “Marie” (Haggerty) Rudd.

The family moved to Nebraska and then to the Oregon slope area; Marjorie attended and graduated from the Ontario High School of Ontario, Oregon in 1940. She also met the love of her life here, Glen Birchmier. Marjorie and Glen were married on July 8, 1941 in Payette, Idaho.

In January of 1947, Marjorie and Glen moved to Smelterville, Idaho, where Glen worked at the Bunker Hill Mining Company. For many years Marjorie was happy being a homemaker, but she later worked at the B&M Café of Kellogg waiting tables and then worked at Ed’s Rexall Drug of Kellogg for fifteen years.

Marjorie was a lifetime member of the Kellogg Lady Elks. She so loved and enjoyed her family and as the matriarch of the family, Marjorie taught us everything from how to crack an egg to making bread. Her love of crocheting and plants kept everyone she knew in afghans and flowers.
Marjorie will be truly missed by her family and friends. She could always be counted on for a laugh, an entertaining story, or a shoulder to lean on if you needed. To paraphrase Winnie the Pooh, “How lucky are we to have something that makes saying good-bye so hard.”

Marjorie is survived by three children Wallace (Ardie) Birchmier of Coeur d’ Alene, Glenda (Larry) Hawkins of Pine Creek, and Harley (Candy) Birchmier of Kingston; six grandchildren Carrie Hamilton, Tracy Birchmier, Richard Hawkins, Christopher Hawkins, Tricia (Jody) Krisher, and Brenda (Wes) Williams; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; her sister Virginia Cassingham of Redding, California; a brother Wallace (Marilyn) Rudd of Cove, Oregon; a brother Raymond Rudd of Coeur d’ Alene and a brother Jack (Patti) Rudd of LaGrande, Oregon; her sisters-in-law Jeri Rudd of LaGrande, Oregon and Debbie Rudd of Cove, Oregon; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years Glen Birchmier, a fraternal twin who died at birth, two brothers Lee and Orland Rudd and sister-in-law Rita Rudd.

A Celebration of Marjorie’s Life will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at 1:00 P.M. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel of Kellogg with Marjorie’s son Harley Birchmier officiating. A potluck reception and a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Kellogg Elks following services. Inurnment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery of Kellogg.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Kellogg Elks, P.O. Box 608, Kellogg, Idaho 83837.

SHOSHONE FUNERAL SERVICES & CREMATORY KELLOGG, IDAHO is entrusted with funeral arrangements.
