Muriel Staley

March 6, 1923 — October 22, 2025

Pinehurst, Idaho

Muriel Staley was a remarkable woman whose life spanned over a century, beginning in Sheffield, England on March 6, 1923 and concluding in Pinehurst, Idaho on October 22, 2025 at the age of 102. During World War II, she courageously served in the British Army’s Auxiliary Territorial Service as a plotter, a critical role that contributed to the war effort. It was during this tumultuous period that she met her future husband, Robert G. Staley, a Sergeant in the US Air Force.

In 1946, Muriel immigrated to the United States to reunite with Robert in Selah, Washington. She embraced her new home, eventually becoming an American citizen.

Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Staley and her grandson Jeffrey Wehr. She is survived by three devoted daughters and son in laws– Jean Collins and George, Peggy Johnston and Harve, and Patty Whitaker and Dennis, seven grandchildren- Mike Johnston, Amy Carney, Andrew Whitaker, Shawn Wehr, Chris Whitaker, and Jesse Collins. 14 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

At Pinehurst Senior Living Center, Muriel found a compassionate community that provided her comfort and companionship during her later years. She maintained an active lifestyle, practicing yoga and nurturing her passion for African Violets. Her love for cats was well-known among her family and friends, reflecting her gentle and caring nature.

In lieu of flowers, her family has requested donations to local animal shelters, a touching tribute that honors Muriel’s compassionate spirit and love for animals. Her legacy of resilience, love, and kindness will continue to inspire her family and all who knew her.
