Pierina Lucille Truant Miller
Pierina (Perry) Truant Miller, beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandma, nana and great-grandma, passed away in the early hours of April 24, 2017 at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation in Kellogg, Idaho. Pierina was born in Harrison, Idaho on September 28, 1926, to Natale (Ned) Truant and Mary D’Andrea Truant. As a toddler, she and her family relocated to Kellogg, Idaho where Ned worked for the Bunker Hill Company and Pierina attended Sunnyside Elementary School. She then went on to Kellogg Jr. High where she found her love for music as an accordion and mandolin player. She also played the French horn and was under the direction of Glen Exum at Kellogg High School where she graduated with the class of 1944. After her freshman year at the University of Idaho, she returned to Kellogg to work in the warehouse office of the Bunker Hill Company.
In September 1948, Pierina married fellow classmate and Navy Veteran James Lewis Miller, and the newlyweds made their family home of 68 years on Mission Avenue in Kellogg. Perry and Jim have five children; Jim Jr. (Delene) Miller, Edward Miller, Teresa (Gerald) Duhamel, Peter Miller and Mary Miller. Perry is also survived by 8 grandchildren; Simon (Amy), Sarah, Gabrielle (Cary Wright), Christian, Monica, Josiah, Micah and Hannah. She was also blessed with 5 great-grand children Kennedy, Gracie, Gemma, Gia and Gladdie. Pierina was preceded in death by her parents and brother Ned Truant Jr.
Pierina was a life-long active member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church. She and Jim were Eucharistic Ministers for many years. She was a 70 year member of the Catholic Daughter Court St. Therese’ of the Mountains #1053, leading as Grand Regent as well as many other active offices and committees. Perry was especially active on St. Rita’s prayer chain. She and Jim enjoyed many decades of participation in St. Rita’s adult choir.
As an award-winning Tupperware Dealer, Pierina was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association. She was affectionately referred to as “The Tupperware Lady” by hundreds of hostesses from Murray to Harrison for over three decades. Her family remembers many evenings with Tupperware overflowing the kitchen and dinning room as she organized orders for delivery. Perry also worked part-time for nearly 25 years at the local Sears and Roebuck Catalog Store in Kellogg.
Civic interests were activated by her participation in Shoshone County Community Concert Association when she was still in high school. She continued with this work into her 80’s winning membership sales recognition annually. In later years she was tapped to join the City of Kellogg Library Board.
Pierina will be dearly missed by family, colleagues, friends and everyone who had the pleasure to meet her.
A Rosary Vigil will be held on Thursday, May 4 at 7:00 P.M. at the St. Rita’s Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be held the following day on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Jerome Montez serving as celebrant. Following inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery of Kellogg a reception of family and friends will be held at the church fellowship hall.
