Obituary

Robert “Bob” Raymond Wilbur, 85, of Harrison, Idaho, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away on March 3, 2026, at Pinehurst Senior Community in Pinehurst, Idaho, where he had been residing.

Bob was born on June 25, 1940, in Kellogg, Idaho, to Clarence and Della May (Anderson) Wilbur. He spent many years working as a miner at Bunker Hill until its closing then went to work at the Sunshine Mine, dedicating himself to the hardworking spirit that defined so many in the Silver Valley.

Bob married Mary Lou Ablutz in 1959 and the couple later divorced in 1991. They remained good friends, along with her husband, Herb. Bob spent many holidays with Mary Lou and Herb at their place and countless visits on the back porch.

Following his retirement, Bob treasured time at his home on the lake in Harrison. There, he created countless cherished memories with his daughters and grandchildren.

Bob had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and embraced every opportunity to enjoy it. Whether boating, fishing, camping, downhill or cross-country skiing, he felt most at home in nature. He also enjoyed riding dirt bikes and cycling the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes. A classic car enthusiast, Bob rarely missed a car show and took great pride in admiring and sharing stories about vintage automobiles.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Ron Wilbur and Kenny Wilbur, and his sister, Donna Longfellow.

He is survived by his two daughters, Pam (Leif) Sundstrom of Pinehurst, Idaho, and Kim Thompson of Post Falls, Idaho; three grandchildren, Tiffany Hyatt of Boise, Idaho, Jacob Thompson of Winston, Oregon, and Anika Sundstrom of Pinehurst, Idaho; two great-grandchildren, Zach Hyatt and Abby Hyatt; three brothers, Russ (Carolyn) Wilbur of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Jim Wilbur and Frank Wilbur both of Big Timber, Montana; as well as ten nephews and five nieces.
