Beloved husband, father, grandfather, soon to be great-grandfather, brother and friend, Robert “Bones” Lawrence Davis, 77, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away August 20, 2014 at the Mountain Valley Care & Rehabilitation of Kellogg. He was born August 12, 1937 in Kellogg; Robert was the son of John “Jack” Edward and Mary Frances (Crosby) Davis.
Bones attended and graduated from the Kellogg High School in 1957; he then attended the Lewis/Clark Normal School. Bones served in the U.S. Army. He has lived in the Silver Valley all of his life.
Bones married Josephine “Jo” Mary Marcolin on July 11, 1968 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.
Bones had worked for the Bunker Hill Mining Company of Kellogg for 22 years. He had also worked for Father George King of the Catholic Church for 10 years.
Bones was a member of the St. Rita’s Catholic Church of Kellogg, a past member of the Knights of Columbus, past president and member of the St. Vincent De Paul of Kellogg for 6 years-Bones was instrumental in starting this store; he was also a member of the U.S. Army Reserves.
Bones loved and enjoyed his family, playing softball and was a member of the Deadwood Dynamos Basketball team at the YMCA. He had also written a newspaper column for the Shoshone News-Press for 33 years- a sports column, river report and athletes feats. And for a short time he had a radio spot on KWAL called Bones Davis- What In The World of Sports.
Bones is survived by his beloved wife Josephine “Jo” Mary Davis of the family home of Kellogg; four children Mary Rose Davis of Kellogg, Anne Marie (Casey) Duncan of Osburn, Robert Joseph (Tammy) Davis of Osburn and Sally Jo Davis of Kellogg; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way; Bones was one of 16 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters and one granddaughter Rose Mary Moberley.
A Memorial Rosary and Mass in memory of Bones will be held on Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 at 6:00 P.M. at the St. Rita’s Catholic Church of Kellogg with Father Marcos Sanchez serving as celebrant. And Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, August 24th, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at the Silver Valley Worship Center of Smelterville with Pastor Corey Berti officiating. A potluck reception and a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Church Fellowship Hall following services.
