Pinehurst, Idaho

Stanley Hilton Shapiro, 73, beloved life partner of Kristi Beamis and physician to many passed away quietly at home in Pinehurst, Idaho on Thursday, February 15, 2024.

Born on April 8, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan to Morton and Mindella Shapiro, Stan grew up in that same city. He graduated from Wayne State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Arts. Stan furthered his education at the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa and, then, returned to Michigan in 1981 to complete a one-year internship. He immediately followed this with a 3-year residency in Internal Medicine.

Searching for a rural community to practice medicine, Dr. Shapiro moved to Kellogg, Idaho in 1985 and maintained a private solo general practice for 5 years. In 1990 he began working full-time as an emergency room physician at Shoshone Medical Center (SMC) in Kellogg. He served in various positions at SMC including Chief of Staff and Emergency Room Director. Later, he became CMO of Heritage Health in Coeur d’Alene.

While living in Kingston, he purchased Kingston High School and renovated it to help preserve it for the community. He lived in and filled it with many Silver Valley mementos.

Stan lived a very active life. He especially enjoyed hiking, skiing, backpacking, traveling, and visiting with his good friends as well as interacting with friendly dogs. Later in life, Stan developed a passion for Volkswagen camper vans and restored a 1977 bus “Slugo” that he and Kristi used for travel and explorations. Summers he enjoyed spending in the Pacific NW with his favorite spot being Glacier National Park. He spent winters mainly in Utah and Arizona – His most favorite hiking area was in Sedona, AZ. Stan and Kristi’s international travels included Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, Europe, China, New Zealand, Jordan, Greece, Western Balkans, Peru and Mexico.
