Walter Craig Strobel, 74, of Silverton, ID, passed away on January 31, 2026 at Silverton of Cascadia Health and Rehabilitation in Silverton, ID. Walter was born on May 25, 1951 in Kellogg, ID, a son of the late Walter and Gwendolyn (Waltman) Strobel.
Walter met the love of his life, Mary Lou Cerini in Petaluma, CA, where his family was stationed on the military base. Walter and Mary Lou were married on July 6, 1974 in Petaluma. The couple had two children, Katie and Lindsy, and later the couple returned back to Walter’s home in the Silver Valley. Mary Lou passed away on April 12, 2025.
Together, Walter and Mary Lou owned and operated a restaurant for 15 years in California. Walter was known as the “The Jerky Guy”, distributing beef jerky to various stores for over 25 years. Walter and Mary Lou enjoyed going to thrift stores and garage sales, always chasing a good bargain.
In addition to his parents and his dear wife, Mary Lou, Walter is preceded by his step-father, Eugene Ellingson; and a sister, Roxanne Clifton.
He is survived by his two children, Lindsy Strobel of Osburn, ID and Katie (Matt) Murray of Mullan, ID; two grandchildren, Ayden and Alivia Murray; a brother, Scott Ellingson of Kennewick, WA; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At Walter’s request, cremation will take place and no services are planned.
