George Edward Dexter Jr., 93

Beloved brother, father, uncle, and grandfather, George Edward Dexter Jr., 93, of Pinehurst, Idaho, peacefully passed away at Pacifica Pinehurst on October 5, 2019. He was born on May 7, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York; the son of George and Phyllis (Devine) Dexter.

George attended school and graduated from Hyde Park, Massachusetts.

George married the love of his life, Florence Hirschi, on November 15, 1946.

George had become a resident of the valley only recently, previously living in Spokane, Washington for the past two and a half years. Prior to living in Spokane, George lived in Greenwood, South Carolina for approximately 15 years.

George worked as a purchasing agent for the City of North Myrtle Beach of South Carolina for 12 years, previously working with as a purchasing agent with different companies for 18 years. George had worked as a machinist for defense contractors. Notably, George also worked as a sonar tech and installed the first sonar on a nuclear submarine in the SS George Washington. George was aboard the USS Missouri, Battleship BB63, from commissioning to the Japanese Surrender, which he witnessed on September 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay.

George held memberships at the VFW Post 8131, the American Legion, and was also a plank owner for the USS Missouri Association.

In his spare time, George was an avid golfer and enjoyed repairing watches. He also enjoyed eating his favorite foods; steak, and seafood, as well as enjoyed reading biographies.

George is survived by his three daughters, Ellen Matz of St. Regis, Montana, Louise Bracero of Loris, South Carolina, and Tara Martin (Walter) of Eaton, Colorado; his sister, Marjorie Burns of Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts; three granddaughters, Amy Bracero and fiancé James, Karyn Bracero and fiancé Daniel and Katherine (Justin) Zarada; as well as several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by both parents, George and Phyllis; as well as his beloved wife, Florence.

A private Celebration of Life will be held on November 23, 11:00AM at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
