Jim Vergobbi

June 23, 1930 — July 9, 2019

Jim D. Vergobbi, 89

Beloved father, grandfather, community leader and friend, Jim D. Vergobbi of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away July 9, 2019, at the Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg.  He was born June 23, 1930, in Kellogg, the son of Elmer and Giannina (Columbo) Vergobbi.

Jim graduated from Kellogg High School in 1948 and attended the University of Idaho.  He then went to Germany to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Home from the military, Jim married Viola “Vi” Dzwilewski on August 22, 1953, in Bolton, Massachusetts.  They moved to Kellogg where Jim worked as a carpenter with the Bisaro Brothers, then managed the Forest Products treatment plant and saw mill for over two decades.  He got involved in local politics, proudly serving as Councilman and Mayor of the City of Kellogg, then Shoshone County Commissioner for many terms until his retirement.

Jim was a member of the St. Rita’s Catholic Church of Kellogg.  He was also a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus, eventually serving as State Deputy for Idaho.  He was an umpire for the North Idaho Softball League and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling.  Jim was well-versed in international and world events as well as politics.  He also loved following sports, especially the Gonzaga Bulldogs.  But above all, Jim loved and enjoyed being with his family.  He often visited his kids and grandkids and took many trips with them all – from Massachusetts and Hawaii to California, Oregon, Arizona, Utah and Alaska.

Jim is survived by his three children: Cathryn Dammel and her spouse, Emil, of Seattle, Washington; David Vergobbi and his spouse, Anne Riordan, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and April Lee and her spouse, Eric, of Barbarasco, Italy; four grandchildren: Zach Dammel, Clare Vergobbi, Alexander Lee and Nicholas Lee.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Vi.  “We all love you, Dad.”

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Kellogg Elks.  Everyone is welcome.
