John David (Dave) Thompson, 87

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Dave Thompson, 87, of Kingston, Idaho, passed away December 21, 2019 at the family home with his loved ones by his side.  He was born August 10, 1932 in French Camp, California; Dave was the son of John and Henrietta (Vieria) Thompson.

Dave earned his PhD from the School of Hard Knocks, first working in the Vieria family orchards and helping an uncle deliver the farm’s dairy products in the Marysville, CA area. By age 16, he was working in Yuba County, CA underground mines. He mined in several U.S. states over the years. He spoke often of mining in Peru as a very young man. He loved exploring the country and experiencing the culture.

Dave was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Wallace. He was a loving and caring man who liked to help others. He volunteered to causes of the Church, Habitat for Humanity, and enjoyed helping in the Gene Day Park’s fishing pond clean-up and restoration project.

In July of 1999, Dave was united in marriage to Eleanor (Wilson) at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Wallace. They celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this past summer.

Dave’s full life included many beloved pets, especially Dachshunds and cats.  He was known as a handy man who could fix just about anything. He once designed and built his own race car motor and won many street and track races in several western states. When Dave wasn’t working or volunteering his time, he was gone fishing.  He loved fishing with friends and family. He shared that passion especially with daughter Nancy and his grandchildren.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife Eleanor Thompson; three children Lynn (Damon) Pritchett, Wes (Lynne) Wilson and Nancy Wilson; seven grandchildren Lanae (Andrew) Faires, Joyce, Nichole, Benjamin, Jasmine (Josh) Addington, Lacy, and one great-grandson Henry. He is also survived by his sister Joan, several nieces and nephew.  Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Elli and siblings Velma, Pat and Kenneth.

Cremation will take place and no services will be held at this time.
