Dorothy Mae Fields, 86, of Pinehurst, Idaho, passed away January 18, 2012 at the Mountain Valley Care & Rehabilitation of Kellogg, Idaho. She was born February 2, 1925 at Clovis, California; Dorothy was the daughter of Fritz Marcus King and Etta Bell (Sturgis) King.
Dorothy attended and graduated from the Fresno High School of Fresno, California in 1943.
She married Joseph Fields August 31, 1946 at Long Beach, California. Dorothy and Joe raised their family in northern California where she was a wife, mother and homemaker. In the early 1970’s, Dorothy and Joe moved to Moro Bay where they were caretakers on a ranch. Dorothy was a natural care-giver and especially enjoyed being a nanny for her great-nephews Jimmy and Cody Dominghini. Her hobbies included gardening, leather work and reading.
In the winter of 1992, Dorothy moved from Moro Bay, California to the Silver Valley. She adjusted to Idaho winters and never quite gave up on attempting to grow her favorite warm-weather plants like tomatoes, peppers, dahlias, begonias and rosemary. She loved starting her seedlings on her window sill then transplanting them to her greenhouse. She was always ready to start another flower garden and faithfully maintained her bird feeders year-round. Dorothy could often be found relaxing in her chair on her porch watching her birds and surveying her many flower gardens. Although shy by nature, Dorothy always had time for children and her title of “Nana” followed her to Idaho where she dolled out ice cream and popcicles to Merissa, Natasha, Wyatt , Ian, Annika and Aydin. Dorothy will be most remembered for her kind and gentle spirit and her positive attitude.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Jack Fields of Kellogg, Idaho and Rod and his wife Jackie Fields of Pine Creek, Idaho; five grandchildren: Erik Fields, Jon (Jennifer) Fields, Jack Fields, Russell Fields and Jeremiah (Trudi) Jordan. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Tyler, Jimmy, Cole, Archer, Jonas, Annika, Aydin, and Terryn, her sister-in-law and friend, Genie Dominghini, numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph, one brother, Kenny King, and her longtime friends, Al and Dolores Brady.
Cremation was held and a celebration of her life will be scheduled at a future date. The family wishes to thank the staff at Mountain Valley Care & Rehabilitation, Dr. Haller, Loving Care & More and especially Norene Jones for their support of Dorothy during her last months. Memorials in her name may be made to the Staff House Museum or to an organization of one’s choice.
